To support live election-night media coverage, the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) expedited the installation of high-speed internet service at the State Historical Building following a priority request from the Iowa Department of Administrative Services on October 30.
Over a 36-hour period, ICN’s structured cabling team pulled over 3,000 feet of cable throughout the facility to convert the historical building’s space into a temporary press center. ICN project managers, data operations specialists, and Fiberutilities Network Services (ICN's network maintenance provider), coordinated the rapid turnaround across several groups.
The setup delivered dedicated Ethernet connectivity to 26 press stations. Technicians pulled Category 6 cabling straight to the press tables, primary media work area, live-shot risers, and head-on camera platforms. Additionally, ICN’s structured cabling crew remained on-site to provide support throughout the night.
The project highlights ICN’s ongoing commitment to step up in times of need, ensuring critical telecommunications infrastructure is in place to keep Iowans connected when it matters most.
