Learning about the challenges, possibilities of modern technology

This year, I was honored to be chosen as one of the 14 members of the Statewide Youth Broadband Advisory Council.

It has been a fascinating journey exploring the expansive realms of technology and the intricate web of cybersecurity. This platform has allowed me to dive into the domains of code, cyber threats and the ever-evolving tech landscape, providing enlightenment on the possibilities and challenges within the digital horizon.

In today’s digital age, our monthly meetings consistently emphasize cybersecurity. Within these forums of technological discourse, we untangle the complex threads of online data protection and the defense of our digital fortresses.

Engaging in conversations laden with real world perils such as malware and ransomware heightens my awareness. The resounding call for vigilance and proactive measures in safeguarding the sanctity of our digital lives becomes increasingly clear.

As technology undergoes ceaseless metamorphosis, I am a firsthand witness to the captivating dance of transformative waves in the front-row theater. The growing prevalence of artificial intelligence sparks discussions about its potential impact on our future.

Recently, our group of 14 students was introduced to Grid Garden, a coding utopia where we orchestrate virtual gardens through the language of code. This hands-on exploration unfolds new and exciting coding experiences.

Each monthly meeting features guest speakers, including voices like Kelly Lanier Arnold and James Nielsen from Microsoft’s data center, sharing insights into the inner sanctums of tech behemoths.

Furthermore, the council provides students with the opportunity to obtain Fortinet certification. This certification validates mastery of the technical skills and knowledge required for any entry-level job role in cybersecurity.

As the pixels of code dance before my eyes, I am thankful for the opportunities that the Statewide Youth Broadband Advisory Council has provided me with.
