For our Facilities team, large generators and huge propane tanks are pieces of equipment that are tested regularly to help ensure back-up power starts, if needed, to power ICN’s FOTS room (fiber-optic transmission system) located at numerous sites throughout the State. Our team wrapped up two major relocations that required planning and coordination both internally, our customers, and with outside vendors.

Scott Community College, Bettendorf
The relocation task at Scott Community College, part of Eastern Iowa Community College, was to move a generator and two 1000-gallon tanks approximately 50 feet from the existing location. This move made space for the community college to construct an ADA ramp for faculty and students.

Ames High School, Ames
The installation of a generator and a propane tank was needed to stand up a new FOTS room for network equipment at the new Ames High School, which is set to open for the 2022-2023 school year in August. Through a collaborative effort with ICN’s Operations, Engineering, Outside Plant, Warehouse, and vendors, this project was completed on target and on time.
